I just removed a '61 PG pan this afternoon. The PO had used a bunch of stuff to hold the fluid in. The blue RTV was over used. More ain't better.
Besides straightening the pan and cleaning the mating surfaces, should/shouldn't a sealer be used? I prefer a thin layer of permatex as it is non hardening and will hold the gasket securely in place. I'm going to use a Clark's rubber gasket. The PO had a cork? thing that was a bear to remove with all the stuff used to make a seal.
The pan had no debris, but had a black film in places on the bottom. Filter to be soaked and cleaned. Fluid a little dark, no burnt smell at all.
Any suggestions?
