 Agreed, but the VW transaxle will last a LOT longer if it turns the correct direction. Reverse rotation engine is the preferred way to do Corvair to VW and Porsche conversions.

Looking at the article, they made the 140 run backwards, "a ‘reverse 
rotation’ camshaft and distributor drive which allows the Corvair engine 
to run in reverse (clockwise) direction, so that it can be successfully 
mated with the standard VW transmission." Lots of work, since you can 
just reverse the diff Ring gear assm. in the VW transaxle and leave the 
140 stock. Thus the stock VW alt. I wonder if my wife would notice if I 
swapped the 1600 in my Karmann Ghia with the 140 in her Monza conv .
