     Good point, but under some lighting conditions, the red light may not be that obvious, or, it may not be working at all!  Also, when the red light comes on it probably means you have already overheated the engine.  In contrast, you can tell if the CHT gauge is working long before it indicates that the engine temp is rising above normal.  We need a CHT gauge just like we need a fuel level gauge instead of a red light that comes on when the fuel level is dangerously low.
