Listen to Harry.  Check the pitman arm and the idler arm on the other side -
most likely the idler arm bushing.  What you describe is exactly what a bad
idler arm bushing acts like.  Yeah, you should probably be able to feel it
in the steering - except the whole car is vibrating.

Cocktail shakers are highly over-rated.
