A Sagan is a humorous <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_of_measurement> unit of measurment whose lower bound is at least 4 billion with an very large upper bound.

Further, according to this Wikipedia entry, "Sagan himself claimed never to have used 'billions and billions', instead opting for the simpler phrase billions of stars. In fact, it was actually Johnny Carson who popularized the phrase through his occasional impersonation of Sagan throughout his career."

Please, nobody ask who Johnny Carson was.  TTBOMK, Johnny never drove a Corvair.
