<VV> ALUMINIUM CORVAIR IDLER PULLEY?

Hi everyone,

Recently I purchased a Custom Aluminium Idler pulley from Clarks. I did this as Clarks claim that these pulleys have:

a) Better bearings than the original equipment style idler pulleys.

b) Have less "run-out and wobble" than the original equipment style idler pulleys.

I expect that the above has to be a good thing.

My previous experience however with using aluminium pulleys on other vehicles (not Corvairs) has not been good. I have found that the 'V' belt has worn the soft aluminium pulley grove so that the 'V' grove becomes a curved in shape over time.

I wondered if anyone has had experience with using these Clarks Custom Aluminium Idler pulleys, and if they tend to wear out quickly?

I have found Clarks Corvairs to be simply outstanding in the service they provide and the parts they supply. I expect that Clarks will have tested these Custom Aluminium Idler pulleys and if problems existed that they would not be offering them for sale.

But would however be interested to hear any views on this subject. Perhaps some aluminium is softer or harder?

Regards

Carl L. Kelsen
