Hi Rod,
Congrats on rescuing another FC. The codes are easy. The ZK engine is from a Lakewood wagon, 98hp Powerglide.
740 is Cardinal Red with a Cameo White stripe. 1961 FC colors were the same as all other 61 truck colors and they were enamel.
431 is the Custom Equipment Option which fits the equipment you describe. Chrome bumpers and hub caps were a separate "Custom Chrome" option but it wasn't listed on the ID plate.
The heater hose cover plates on the engine plus the Victorville desert location indicates the truck wasn't ordered with a heater at all. You'd see evidence of it having a gas heater if it ever had one!

Hope this helps,
Dave

i just bought a '61 rampy that's been sitting on a small victorville ca homestead for the past 35 years - paid $300 and planning to send it back to my father-in-law in northern indiana as a "torture project" :) . PG w 98918 odo miles listed. straight body with only minor rust but overall needs a major restore...i pulled the codes but can't find a '61 FC code breakdown online - nothing listed on kent's corvairkid fc page...if anyone can offer some expertise or website for me to go to it would be much appreciated. here's what i got...

VIN #: 1R124S129647...61 rampy, st. louis, 29,647th unit

ENGINE CODE:
T0929ZK...sept 29th, ZK suggests 98hp motor - not 61 fc standard so either a 61 engine option or later swap...any thoughts?

PAINT CODE: 740G...vehicle is orange now (faded), but appears to originally be red w white stripe...any specific info available per the code? i found a "roman red" listed for '61 standard corvair cars.

TRIM CODE: 431A...again, any specific info? fyi, truck has chrome bumpers and windshield trim, dual sun visors, full bench seat, factory radio, windshield wiper spritzer, textured glove box door, no lighte r, manual choke cables but no dash punchout (even tho CHOKE is scripted into the dash bezel), plus engine heater hoses are closed - possible gas heater? tailgate shows that it once had the "deluxe" reflectors, plus it has round aftermarket reverse below tailights...who knows what else, if anything, was non-factory...

thx,

Rod

never thought i'd own 1, and now i have 3!
