<VV> Nitride Crank ID

I have been busy dissasembling a couple of 140s. I ran across a 0/0 crank in one of them. The bearings were the original GM style. The crank did not have the infinity symbol on the gear end like most hardened cranks do. Do we have a way of determining if has been nitrided? The groups thoughts??
