Although I am very satisfied with the way my 69 Monza drives, handles, and
runs, it's always had a bit of a rough idle which can be disconerting at

A tune-up (new or cleaned plugs) usually smooths it out for a few weeks, and
advancing the timing helps too (but then you have a pinging problem, which I
know must be avoided).

I use premium gas on my 110 PG.  The CORSA Tech Guide has two suggested
tricks to fix a rough idle:

1.  Remove air cleaner and ducts, put your hand over the top of one carb,
give it the gas, then do the same over the other carb.  This is supposed to
clear out a clog in the carbs one at a time.

I tried that, found carb vacuum to be VERY strong at the air horn, almost
hurt my hand from the suction (a good thing?)

2.  Remove the idle mixture screw from the base of the carbs, spray carb
cleaner into the openings, then re-adjust mixture when screw is replaced.

My idle is nice smooth, and it's almost as smooth as the modern cars I own

Makes ownership of my Corvair much more pleasant.  The engine has a nice
rumble while maintaining both a smooth idle and nice smooth pickup.
