  also, the first "6 cylinder" Porsche engine to hit the market was 
  in 1963 (2.0 liter)...which btw, did not match the Corvair engine size 
  (2.7 liter) until 1972...

I think one of the challenges comparing Porsches to Corvairs is Porsches have ALWAYS been a lot more expensive, therefore they can afford a whole different level of engineering. It's no put down of the Corvair, it's just stating the reality of how it is. For the money, Corvairs offer more! Remember, Corvairs came with turbos well over a decade before 911s did! And when the first 911s appeared, a Monza Spyder or a Corsa turbo was quicker...
