We're agreed that the speed of light is ~196,000 miles per second.

Heh, another * Coast to Coast * listener, EH?

One important thing to remember ::  speed of light varies according to the 
medium it is passing thru.... whereas the Speed of Darkness actually speeds 
up with an increase in density of the medium.

That is one reason the ignition on your points system uses the Darkness of 
Opening Points as the trigger to collapse the electro-magnetic lines in your 
transformer ... it gets quicker the heavier the oil in the coil.
