<VV> Time Trails in Cedar Rapids

Well, I'm no genius in these matters, but isn't a time trial basically an autocross without the cones? e.g. the Cedar Rapids track (Hawkeye Downs) is a race track. With no "course" set up on it, wouldn't it also work for time trials? Or are time trials specifically run on a non oval track? Time trials mean to run against the clock, right? Same track, two different events?

I would like to open dialogue on the possibility of getting some type of
Road Course Time Trials event to be held in conjunction with next years
national in Cedar Rapids. I understand the amount of time and or effort
involved in such an endeavor. I am not trying to get various groups pointing
fingers! If you to point fingers point them at me! I am a great target! My
goal is simple! Find a way to promote and enjoy the Corvair. Racing and or
high performance Corvairs are on the rise! So with that said here is what I
perceive to be the list of "things that will need to happen before this
event can occur. Please bear in mind I am by no means an expert on creating
an event of this magnitude

1. Is there a local track within reasonable distance to the Convention
site?
2. Will Corsa ever step up to sanction such an event or with the
assistance of other clubs who have such experience?
3. Based on recent Corvair "racing" activity in the area will there be
enough local help?
4. Would there be greater involvement at the national as a result of
some type or Time Trial?
5. This line is for other questions I have not considered (yours
perhaps).

Like many who would like to bring a car to the national, it boils down to 3
maybe 4 runs at an autocross.
