<VV> Email format vs. forum- a different perspective

I like the forum at Corvair Center - in fact I like it better than the email format of VV. I find myself spending more time there than on VV and it used to be the opposite. In fact, I no longer get the email digest (or individual emails) from VV, I go to the archive page and read there, which makes it more like a forum really.

I found I was more likely to respond to a stupid post when I read it in an email than I am if I read it off a page full of posts. It's just the way I am. There were a LOT of stupid posts here for a while and I found myself getting caught up in it so I stopped getting the digests. Checking the archives is much more conducive to avoiding the annoyances. I think the forum format is even better for avoiding posts you don't like or are just not interested in. There's less need for people to come on and post "stop posting on this subject" posts. There's still nonsense there but it's easier to spot and avoid (if you want to). And all the posts pertaining to a particular subject are under one post heading so you don't have to scroll through a list of posts to find the thread you want. It's also easier to separate the new posts from the quoted old posts with the forum format since each new post is in its own "box". Sometimes there's so much quoting of previous posts in people's responses here that I can't find their response at all!

Another thing I like about the forum format is posts auto-wrap. On some VV posts, the words scroll out to the right forever making it very difficult to read. Maybe it's a failing of Firefox but I don't have that problem on forum pages.

Personally, I'd love for VV to go to a forum format but for now, the archive reading method works great for me.

BTW, I'm almost 50 and my car has stock wheels, paint and engine - no bling. Just for the record.
