Nope.   The shaft slides in and out of the hole just like any other shaft.

In the meantime, get your buddy to smack the clutch disk end of the 
shaft with a block of wood a few times to see if it will 
loosen.    Don't flail on it like John Henry, just some sharp 
raps.   It should loosen things up a bit.    Then if the shaft still 
won't come out, you might wanna try wrapping some surplus sheet metal 
strip around the splined clutch disk end of the shaft, then clamp 
some large vise-grips onto the wrapped strips guarding the shaft and 
start prying and pulling.


It SHOULD come out without having to remove the input gear cover for 
whatever reason... it's supposed to be a slide-in fit.     Frankly, I 
never saw one stick enough that I couldn't yank it out via the 
vise-grip trick mentioned above.   Obviously you should try to not 
nick up the splines but if you do, a file will fix them. They're not 
a terribly sensitive fit into the clutch disk but still you don't 
wanna be gnarling them up.
