How about the Carburetor Balance Tube?. The metal tube that runs across
the
back of the firewall, has a fitting for another vacuum line going to the
air
cleaner.

If those small pieces of rubber hose that connect the balance tube are
bad,
you'll have all manner of troube. Been there Done that.

Another Tech tip for all Normally aspirated Corvairs - At least ones with
the 3/8" cross-over tube. It is very easy to replace those troublesome hoses
with Brass fitting assemblies. This will assure a positive seal and allow
easy removal if needed. Look for a pair of 3/8" tube double ferrule
junction fittings. You slide one nut onto the small tube coming out of the carb
base casting on the head, slide on the ferrule, put the main fitting on and
tighten the nut, then do the same on the crossover tube. It is easy and will
be the lifetime solution for this problem.
