All true. But on the other hand, a Solex 34 PICT is a considerably 
larger carb than the HV. Maybe a cheap performance mod to put a pair of 
these in place?

No, but the parts to repair the Rochesters are plentiful and cheap. It
is usually the throttle shafts that wear, try a set of new shafts and
add the throttle shaft o-ring kit to stop any air leakage and they
should work fine. you can also ream them and install bushings, if you
