<VV> GM had every reason to discontinue the Corvair

The various 'pushbutton' transmissions in the Chryslers also had a separate
park lever.  I had some relatives that had a 63 Fury II or III, don't
remember which anymore that had it.

Good point Jim , and by '67 Camaros with console shifted Powerglides  had a
cable shifter.

Don't forget, the 63 Tempest PG had a "Park" feature. So GM could have used
it on the Corvair if they wanted to.
It operated via a 2nd lever on the front of the console.
