Difference is Camaro is rear-engined so the PG is closer to the control
panel that is the Camaro, whose PG right there in front, so a linkage or
short cable works better at that short range ?

Whoa, Ray, chill, please!!

The difference IS between a 12 inch cable vs a 12 foot cable. And the
Tempest dealt with that by having a separate park control. I assume it
was a linkage of some kind.

Plus, short cables present far fewer problems than the really long one
that a Corvair PG uses.

Good point Jim , and by '67 Camaros with console shifted Powerglides
had a
cable shifter.

Don't forget, the 63 Tempest PG had a "Park" feature. So GM could have
used it
on the Corvair if they wanted to.
It operated via a 2nd lever on the front of the console.
