<VV> red light

Dick,

We all gotta learn. It helps those who know how to analyze your problem. I 
suggest you just re-post it and see who know the answerer. I'd guess a wiring 
mix up or the gen is not working properly. Start the engine. If you have a volt 
meter of some sort, put one end on the + of the battery and the other end on the 
- side and  If it does not read about 13 volts the system is not generating/ 
charging the battery.
