R is Resistor (bypass) not Run.

Yes, the R terminal is +12 volts when cranking the engine. This +12 volts
comes from the larger terminal on the solenoid that connects to the battery
through an internal contact that makes when the solenoid is engaged.

This question is applicable to most all 12 volt GM products that use points
in the distributor.

I am working on my 70 Vette, however this question is also applicable to
Vairs.

My question - when cranking the engine (Start Terminal), does 12 Volts
appear on the Run terminal? Or is it switched when the key is release?
