Some of the pug ugly Vettes from the 80's with no muscle are priced fairly
cheap if you look for them. Hot Rod did a story on them a few months ago,
buy one of the less desirable models which still has a good suspension and
other desirable items and add hop up items to make it go like it should have
from the factory. Of course they are still pug ugly but it's a Vette if
that's what you want. <gg>

Well, almost anyone that could own a special use car could choose and own a
Corvette. There are bargains to be had and with care a bargain car can be
made to look good and perform well even if it cannot win Bloomington Gold.
We both fit into that slot. Mostly I am with you ... BUT ... Is it really
greed to buy a part at market price if one needs it for their car? Sure
there are certain pieces that it would be nice to keep in the Corvair
community due to their scarcity. Still, which is worse; a Corvette guy
buying that rare part and actually putting it on his car or one of the
Corvair parts collectors that would buy that same part to put in their
collection, never to be used or even seen again? To me, that is real greed
and I, in the past, have refused to sell a couple of somewhat rare parts to
a part collector.

I of course am in no way contemptuous of ALL Corvette owners. I like
Corvettes, too. Wouldn't mind having one or two, if only I had money like
Bill Harrah did. But I don't.

It's just those people who disrespect Corvair parts, and owners, to the
point that is illustrated by those who are so willing to remove from
Corvair use some very rare parts, just to satisfy their own greed. And THAT
is pure callous, disrespectful arrogance by anybody's standards. If a
Corvette person is truely a car lover, he wouldn't do that. A true car
lover respects EVERYbody's cars (even though we can make friendly jokes
about some of them.) and will leave others' rare parts alone. And THAT is
what annoys me.

P.S. Note that any Falcon jokes I make is purely in the spirit of friendly
rivalry. F**d and Chevy have always had a good rivalry. Falcon was
Corvair's chief rival, so other than Ralphie jokes, what better target? All
in good fun..... and I sincerely wish F**d good success. Just as long as
they're behind Chevy in sales. (G)
