<VV> Dropped valve seat in Colorado

In Colorado you have good hills.  Do you, when going up them, drop your 'Vair down into the next lower gear to climb over them?  I read that tip somewhere and I can't remember where.  It's supposed to increase the air flow over the cylinders to dissapate the excess heat.  I've followed that advice for nearly 30 years (my 'Vairs are driven daily) and in pulling some of Pennsylvania's best hills haven't lost a valve seat yet.
