Frank is correct, tape it up or do the lacquer thinner clean up after the fact. 

Having painted a number of Corvairs myself, you need to remove the part or tape it to keep paint off unwanted areas and even at that, sometimes there is a little that gets by. 

Everyone should do a session inside the paint booth with the painter to get an idea of what the painter goes through.
