<VV> Mixed signals trim vs vin

I just made the leap and picked up my first Vair a running red monza 900 convertable. I am in the process of replacing springs, struts and brakes, and all the parts that leak to make sure its road worthy. My question The car Vin is for a 63 and the trim is 62. Would it be normal for chevy to extend a trim package into the next year to finish out stock. or is it more likly the cars front end was replaced and the wrong trim package added?
