Right you are ... and the buzzer is a great advantage when it replaces a fuse for a circuit test.  If the circuit is shorted it buzzes until the short is located and corrected.  In the case of an open the buzzer is silent until the open is located and corrected.  In either case the sound is heard or not heard no matter where around the car one is working; there is no need to keep looking for the light.

Fault-finding and voltage tracing in your Corvair will be much, much easier, and the indications be true, if you use a light bulb/buzzer device; with the added benefit that, especially with the buzzer, one doesn't have to look at, and especially importantly, interpret what a meter is trying to tell you.  If the bulb light, and the buzzer buzzes, you have voltage there!
