Mark and Rodney,

Years ago I wrapped the crossover pipe on my 180 turbo and the boost came
up much quicker and went from 8 psi to 10 psi on the long hill I drove to
work (non-stock boost gauge). The NEGATIVE part was that after 6 months the
crossover pipe blew out at the upward bend. After examining the piece,
the chief metallurgist at the chemical plant where I was working told me it
wasn't rust but "overtemperature" that destroyed the pipe bend. So if
you're coating the stock piping, I would recommend coating the INSIDE as well as
the outside so as to minimize the temp. rise of the metal itself. I also
noticed that wrapping the crossover tended to loosen up the bolts where the
crossover was attached to the exhaust headers. Maybe adding a flexible
expansion joint would also be a good idea.

Rodney, I'm overhauling my engine this winter and am coating parts
with a three stage primer, paint and clearcoat VHT silicone ceramic
coating process www.vhtpaint.com that is good for 1200-2000 degrees.
I'm a aviation mechanic, (now work for the FAA) but turbine blades are
ceramic coated so they can withstand higher temps in the back end of a
jet engine. So, it can prevent the heat from getting through in either
direction.
They even recommend coating the heads of pistons to minimize heat
transfer to the piston and engine.
I bought mine at amazon.com.
