<VV> Wiring question

Bear in mind, the voltage at the + terminal is chopped; 6 ish with the
points closed, and 14 with the points open (engine running).

  On the engine harness, the wire for the coil [ + ] is black/yellow.  
Is this wire supposed to be the "resistor" wire?  The reason I'm asking 
is I checked the voltage at the [ + ] terminal with the engine running 
and got 12vdc.  Could someone confirm that the voltage should be 
something less than 12vdc with the engine running??
