<VV> Getting rid of sterring lash.

I'm just getting to the nitty gritty of this steering mechanism, and found 
my lash and play problem to be just the top wormshaft bearing that was 
completely disintegrated, giving too much end play, plus side play of the 
wormshaft so it didn't align with the pitman "sector" shaft.

Seems like that one bearing caused all that problem, and also scored the 
upper wormshaft race.

I'm trying to remedy a similar problem and my current strategy is to cut the 
upper race to remove the scoring/pitting caused by the bad upper bearing :

Estimated cost to cut the upper race (if you can't cut it yourself) is 
$25-$50 ?
