Ted - The 1961 Corvair Shop Manual is the best reference. If you have just  
the assembly manual, you are missing a good bit of information. The 61 
manual  may be the best Corvair manual of all. It covers things in depth that is 
missing  from other years. The later tech guides are also pretty useful. 
There are other  books by Bob Helt and Richard Finch that contain lots of data 
and tips.
