Day at the Museum
The Blackhawk Museum in Danville, CA is one of the premiere automotive
museums in the United States. It is associated with the Smithsonian
Institute and often shares automotive oriented exhibits. On Saturday, September
25th, Corsa SFBA and Silicon Valley Corsa members visited the Museum and, as a
part of the visit, displayed six Corvairs in the in the foyer in front of
the museum entry. A lone Rampside and the five late models might have
confused Museum attendees , had not the owners explained to the dozens of
curious onlookers the early model -late model breakdown. Prominent on the cars
were the 50th anniversary logos based on the CPF coin design. An SFBA
member, Fred Garrity, is a docent at the Blackhawk and took the group on a great
tour of the facility. With a 90 plus temp outside, and a cool museum
inside, the clubs took their time completing the facility, but exited and enjoyed
a great lunch nearby, and a quick trip home. Later in the day, several
members displayed their cars at a Los Gatos car show. I took the opportunity
to drive my street Monza to the museum and back, with only a recalcitrant
E-clip on the Powerglide keeping me on my toes in traffic. All in all, it
was a great day to drive and show your Corvair.
