Ray - Find a local "Speed" shop, if you can. Have it set up on a  
distributor machine. You want 18 degrees of mechanical advance (at the crank)  
starting at 1100 RPM and all in by 2500 RPM. Set the initial advance at 16-18  
degrees, and you will be fine. The low maximum in the distributor is achieved 
by  putting a sleeve over the pin in the mechanical advance. Lighter springs  
allow faster advance. The magnet carrier for the Pertronix just pulls up 
after  the rotor is removed. Then the point plate lifts off.

So I guess this is  aftermarket, which would mean the wrong timing curve.  I
have two  other 140 engines (one is only for parts) I'll check those.
