Talked with my brother-in-law today (happens to be a retired Leaseway driver
who hauled new cars from the plants in Mich. all over the US. He says that
he was not allowed to let anyone else load or unload the vehicles on his
rig. He said if there was any damage to the vehicles he was held
responsible. He inspected cars before they were loaded, drove the cars on
the trailer, bound each car and verified they were secure. Periodically,
when he stopped for the day, filled up, etc. he did additional inspections
on the vehicle bindings en-route. He unloaded the vehicles at the
dealership and occasionally was offered assistance by dealership personnel,
but always refused, because he didn't want to be responsible for the damage
they might have done. The cars were his from the moment he did the
inspection at the factory until the dealer acknowledged acceptance by
signing the Bill of Lading.

Chaz,

I believe the pin pseargent was referring to was the pivot pin on the deck
lid where the lid support attached to the lid, but that's just how I read
it.
