But would replacing the plastic window necessarily mean that the zipper and 
 the fabric it's attached to had to have been replaced?

is extremely likely that the window was also replaced at  that time. 
Replacing only the window is nearly as much labor as replacing  the entire 
top/widow.  So, if you decide to replace the window also  get the price on 
the top with window.
