Ray,

A different idea for your floor is to paint it with one of the epoxy paints that are available. I did mine about 15 years ago, and it has held up well --- has some nicks and scratches and then some splotches of POR-15 from doing the underside of my son's Vair (that stuff don't come off) -- but it still looks pretty good. It has proved to be largely immune to brake fulid, oil, and other organic liquids. I believe that I got the paint at Home Depot or Lowes, and put 2 coats over the whole floor. It wasn't too expensive and it was easy to put on. My floor is dark red to sort of match the exterior, and when I clean up the shop and mop the floor it still looks pretty good.

Another idea about putting your shop together that has worked well for me, is I finished the inside walls of the shop by putting in 6" of insulation, and then quarter inch plywood for the bottom 4 feet. For the area between 4 feet and 8 feet, I put up quarter inch peg board. It is one of the best things that I did, as I now have gobs of "storage" to hang specialty tools, extension cords, ropes, or anything else. I have tried to teach both my sons who sometimes work with me on cars or use tha shop, that everything needs to have its place, and needs to get put back in its place after use, so you don't spend lots of time looking for that special tool the next time that you need it (of course they don't always put stuff back). Installing the peg board has made that easier.
