i think most motor longevity with today's parts will be much  better  
because of better lubes and materials. even plain cast iron rings are good for  
100k miles or more.  how long will it take for most of us to go 100,000  
miles? i put between 4 and 10 k a year on the truck. by 10 years , i  will 
probably not be able to drive.
i am going to use the next better grade of rings etc on this newest motor , 
 but i have not seen rings worn on most motors, i have seen broken ones 
from  abuse (such as detonation etc ) but not worn to the point of heavy  
consumption.  most ring failure now is detonation or overheating .   all of the 
above does not apply to constant racing or turbo use.....
i did see a problem in a motor using total seal gapless rings...maybe lack  
of upper lube because of the too good sealing..it was not on a turbo.
actually , i want a small amount of oil consumption for upper lube , even  
if i have to add a little to the gas. good for guides and rings etc. this 
takes  place of our missing lead.
