<VV> Oil FIlter leaks

Previously, after leaving an outer oil filter gasket in the housing (thus I had two gaskets) and getting a fur piece down the road before it leaked, one would think I would be more observant with oil filters. Travel buddy Frank DuVal found the problem after I lost about three quarts of oil.

The new problem: I changed the oil and filter on my Lakewood before attending the Vair Fair. There did not seem to be any leaks. I pulled it back into the garage and let it run a while. Later, I stepped in an oil puddle. After hopping around on one foot, I found the leak was from the filter of course. I tightened it but it still leaked. I tried two more new filters, all three were from a Corvair vendor and made in Taiwan. Still leaked. I pulled the old filter out of the baggie and removed the outer gasket. I put the gasket in the housing and then replaced the filter. After running it a while I detected a small leak. Gave the bolt a quarter turn and no more leaks. So what is the solution? Insure the rubber gasket is in the groves of the oil filter housing (or whatever the technical term may be). Do not spin the filter.
