Regarding the first suggestion, I doubt cooling the rubber will do you much
good.  BIG GRIN!!

I clamped the rubber coupling to the carb top.  You must make certain that
the hose clamp doesn't interfere with any of your linkage, including the
vacuum pull-off for the choke.  As for the air cleaner itself, it fits so
tight to the rubber coupling that I do not use any mechanical fasteners at
all on that end.  Never had one come off in 4 years of driving the car.
