<VV> Removing a windshield

I'm about ready to pull the windshield out of the '63 2-door coupe I bought for a parts car to be installed in my '64 Monza Vert. What's the best way to do this. Someone told me today to cut the whole framework off the car and then get a readily available chemical from an automotive paint store that will "melt" the rubber but not harm the glass. Anyone know about this stuff? Is it more sure, although more work, of not damaging the windshield than getting a tool to cut the rubber and take it out that way.
