Sometimes, quarter mile times are not what is important.  Maybe you want 
to go cruising on cruise night in heavy traffic without wearing out your 
clutch cable, or maybe you have a bad left leg part (knee, ankle, hip, 
...) that makes a clutch more of a problem.  Private convesations with 
amputees are accepted.

Speaking of pawing for the clutch pedal with the auto, how about pawing 
for 5th gear with the stick?

Originally, I was going to convert my 1960 to a 4-speed, like I had done 
with my first Corvair (another 1960), but found the stock automatic to 
be fairly pleasing to drive, not excessively slow, and fairly good on 
fuel (just short of 30 mpg, when gently driven).

So, to keep those clutchy desires satisfied, I've converted this current 
wagon project to the 4-speed I wanted, so I can choose whether I want to 
be shifty or shiftless ...
