You might want to check the small nylon "nut" that is on the connector  that the wire plugs onto- they do get loose and leak. Be careful and don't overtighten it though.

Where is it leaking from? Are you certain it is from the sender unit area? Could it be from the hoses at the filler neck (my '62 was leaking from there)? Are you using the proper tool to install the sender unit retaining nut?
