Early on past Friday, I took El Andariego (67 Corsa clone) to visit and touring with my youngest daughter at some 300 miles Southeast from Guadalajara. As usual, the Vair was previously checked and with the tools and spares in the trunk. BTW, overhauled the engine several months and had some 1,800 miles on city driving only so, this trip will put some 600 necessary road miles on it.

After driving for the first 45 minutes, while just crossing Guadalajara, the engine suddenly stopped without a previous notice. After several pedestrians helped me, pushing the car to a safe place, I started looking, thinking and searching over the engine, unsucessfully. Had gas at the carbs but no spark at the coil so.... my first and only guessing was that the Pertronix unit should have failed. Tought on taking it off and replace the points plate and respective coil but, guess what ?.... left the points plate on the cave.
Next and embarrasing step: phoned to the only known tow trucks number in my phone and... they don't have any available truck at that time.

Went back to the engine and... did a more careful search around just to find... that the 2 ignition wires (resistor and 12 V.) coming from the engine harness plug had been broken close to its' terminal. It was just 44 years old !!

Temporary fixing with a new bypass wire was easy and can continue to a very plesant trip, while checking engine performance (excellent) all the way.

What if they would have a tow truck at hand to put back the car in the cave and then I discovered the broken wire ?....Oh yeah, you can laugh about.
