Hi Ulli,

One possibility is that your gas tank is not vented. As the Corvair
engine runs, the fuel pump pulls gasoline out of the tank which must be replaced
by air entering through the VENTED tank gas cap. If the vent is blocked,
a vacuum gradually builds up in the tank which will prevent fuel from
leaving the tank and flowing to the fuel pump. If your level of fuel in your
tank is well below the "full" level, try running the engine with the gas cap
removed. If this solves your problem, then replace your gas cap with a
stock Corvair vented cap. The correct cap will make a rattling noise when you
shake it demonstrating that the venting valve is working correctly.
Good luck and let us know if this solves your problem.

Hi to all,

I passed inspection on yesterday, go it licensed today. Everything fine so
far.
Drove to work this morning - fine. Got back into the car after work, it
started right up, backed out of the parking lot, put in the first gear,
second .... engine died while driving. Wont start after that.
I waited for about 15 minutes tried it again: starts right up, drives in
first, as soon you shift into second engine shuts down.

Now I am back from a 30 minute foot walk and I do hope that any of you
Corvair specialists has an idea of what is wrong with my baby.

Regards
Ulli
