The only test I've seen mentioned was done by Machinist's Workshop magazine in their April 2007 issue. 

it gets mentioned a lot.

He says he actually used power steering fluid by mistake, and the parts (non threaded, it seems) were allowed to sit immersed 8 hours in the test oils.
