Oil it trading at $88.49 today. That is over $2.00 a gallon for the raw material. Then it needs to be processed. Distribution and advertizing costs.
Then the retail needs to make some money. From what I've read most stations make more money from the stores that part of the station.
Lastly the government isn't responsible for the price of oil. Worldwide oil usage it going up. The higher the demand the more it costs. Capitalism at work. Works for me.

Timothy,
Don't worry! Our supremely wise and loving government set up the
Dept. of Energy a few years ago (35 to be exact) to reduce our dependency on
imported petroleum. With lots of hard work and effort they have managed to
reduce it from 30% of all the oil we use down to 50%.

You don't need to be brave (unless your wife doesn't want you using her
TIDE laundry detergent). Just don't let her catch you doing it. And don't use
gasoline- too expensive. I just bought some today for $3.07 per gallon
(what a ripoff).
