<VV> CLEANING CONCRETE

I thought I'd respond to this topic with my experience. I tried Oil Gone
Easy (http://www.oilgoneeasy.com), which is claimed to be a natural solution
to cleaning oil spills. It's said to be the same bioremediation technology
used on ocean oil spills. It's supposed to foster naturally-occurring
bacteria that eat up the oil in the concrete. I tried it under my Corvair
and my Saturn in my garage. There did seem to be a modest reaction, but the
results were disappointing. While there was some improvement, I can't say
that it completely removed the spots within a reasonable length of time.
>From the advertising, I'd expected results in a couple of weeks and it
definitely didn't work that fast. Some oil spots were never cleaned at all.
In addition to my garage, I tried it on some oil spots in the driveway from
my Sister's Volvo. Those spots did eventually disappear, but I'm not sure
whether it was the Oil Gone Easy or natural weathering. I think one problem
is that you pour the water-based solution on the oily concrete and it just
beads up instead of soaking in. I'm not planning on buying another bottle.

Of course it does have the advantage that it won't cause a fire like certain
volatile solvents can.
