<VV> Moving parts in a transformer

And what does all this comparison with the operating characteristics of a
transformer have to do with what happens in an engine? How this hBN
affects oil in a Corvair can best be determined by mixing the hBN with motor oil
and operating the car for a while, at the same time making measurements of
pertinent operating characteristics; I think you could easily come up with
desirable parameters for operation, John, and I would very much appreciate
it if you would.

Well, nearly all of them move the oil via convection, as pumps, etc., add
to the cost, complexity, and diminish reliability.

Most tap changers are done in a switch filled with SF6, as switching in
oil under load can have explosive consequences.

At any rate, what goes on in a transformer is nothing like what goes on in
an engine. Engines run a LOT hotter, have high pressure lubricated
surfaces, the oil is exposed to combustion products, etc, none of which goes on in
a transformer.

Some of the larger transformers do have pumps, and radiators. They also
have
moveable parts such as tap changers that will step up or step down the
voltage
from an electronic system when the need for a change is sensed. If the
oil gets
to hot it can be shut down automatically.
