I have many engineering drawings from Chevrolet and I can see where the name
originates. Many of the gears and other parts for the early 4 speed
transmissions were purchased from Borg Warner in Muncie, IN. I don't see
that reference on the later 4-speed transmission parts. Many of the early
4-speed drawings had Borg Warner title blocks on them with a Chevrolet part
number added. Later on, Chevrolet did their own drawings and those gears
may have been purchased by Chevrolet from Borg Warner also.
It may be a shock to us all but most parts on our cars are purchased from
outside sources, not made by GM. GM is just the final assembly line of all
the purchased parts.
