Chuck, 
This is correct. Viton is not recommended for dynamic because it is not very elastic. Squeeze a viton O-ring and see how long it takes to recover.

I have read but can't recall where, that Viton is NOT good for dynamic 
sealing. My experience confrms this re bell housing seals. I will not use 
them in the future for either end of crankshaft.
