>Bob- Before I converted to a crank triggered distributorless igniton, I ran the Crane XR-700 system- I really liked it! the only reliability problem with those units(like most electronic ignitions) is that if, somehow, someway, the output from the coil doesnt make it to ground (spark plug wire comes off while the engine is running,coil wire comes off while engine is running.....) you will kill the unit and will need to either replace the unit or go back to points and condensor to get it started again.I killed two of those units over approximately 12 years that way- I didnt have any problems with dirt messing with the optical sensor.
