<VV> Crane XR-700 & XR-3000 Electronic Ignitions

The Crane is an excellent system. I've had one (not sure about the model, and the car's stored so I can't look at it) in my '64 Monza 110 since '95 or so and it works well and reliably. It's got an external control box so it might not be right for concours showing, though.

The Reader's Digest version: I have used the Crane/Allison XR  units for 
many years, in several Corvairs, with great  satisfaction.

The more detailed, version: I have used the Allison (then Crane/Allison  
when Crane bought it) XR units, in several Corvairs, for at least the past  
15-years. I started out with the XR-700 model, but in recent years I've  
switched over to the XR-3000 model... nothing really wrong with the 700 design,  
just that the 3000 allows a full 12-volts (without a ballast wire or  
resister), and controls the dwell... from the XR literature: "...The XR700  
requires ballast resistance to limit coil current. The XR3000 is a high  
performance version with a computer chip that controls coil current and dwell.  When 
installing an XR3000, all OE ballast resistance must be bypassed. See more
